We present silver-plated vascular prostheses with antimicrobial properties. The new generation of Getinge silver-plated, knitted, or woven vascular prostheses are intended to reconstruct the abdominal aorta and peripheral blood vessels. These are the first vascular prostheses to combine two well-known antimicrobial drugs: silver acetate and triclosan. These prostheses can be used in the presence of active infection, as recommended in the instructions.

One of the most severe complications of abdominal aortic and peripheral vascular reconstruction is a vascular prosthesis infection that can cause adverse effects on a patient’s health and be life-threatening. Continuously innovating in the manufacturing process, Getinge has developed the first vascular prostheses to reduce the risk of infection to a minimum, improve patient healing and postoperative course, and reduce the cost of treating such infections.
